Porsche 911 GT3R (M-modeldesign)— Unboxing

Alpha Model AM02-0067 · Build by M-modeldesign

Before starting the assembly, let's take a closer look at what Alpha Model offers in the box. The first thing to check is the condition of each part, as it immediately reflects the quality and care put into the kit.

The packaging is compact and thoughtfully designed, providing excellent protection during transport. Inside, everything is neatly organized, with key components individually packaged — a detail that gives a great first impression of professionalism.

The kit contains everything needed to build a complete replica of this race car. The resin parts arrived intact and are logically grouped, making the assembly process smoother. The casting quality is excellent — mold lines are clean and resin flash is minimal. Only minor imperfections on the edges of the body and wheel rims are visible, but they do not affect the final result.

The centerpiece of the kit is the body, cast in a single piece. The panel lines are sharp and well defined, clearly separating key design elements and making both painting and assembly precise.

The kit also includes a large number of decals — three sheets with over 200 individual decals for carbon fiber details and interior elements. Two paint schemes are provided: the AO Racing team livery or the demo version. To enhance realism even further, photo-etched parts are included for fine metal details, and 3D-printed parts allow for extremely fine elements that are difficult to achieve with resin alone.

Tip: The kit provides two livery options — AO Racing team colors and a demo version. Choose before starting the painting process.

From the very first glance, it's clear this will be an exciting project. I'm looking forward to assembling it and invite you to join me in exploring every detail of this beautifully crafted kit.

Porsche 911 GT3R (M-modeldesign)— Preparing Resin Parts

Alpha Model AM02-0067 · Build by M-modeldesign

In this chapter, we begin one of the most important phases of the build — the preparation process. It starts with a thorough inspection of all parts to identify any imperfections, which are carefully corrected to ensure perfect fitment and clean, smooth surfaces.

Sanding

The next essential step is sanding. For this stage I used Tamiya sandpaper in grit #800 to remove any resin residue and minor casting imperfections. This level of preparation is crucial for achieving a flawless paint finish later on.

第6页 16
第6页 17

Re-scribing Panel Lines

Before applying paint, it is recommended to slightly deepen the panel lines, even though they are already well defined. Layers of paint and clear coats can fill these lines, causing them to lose sharpness. For this task, I used a Tamiya engraving blade (0.2 mm), which allows for precise and clean re-scribing.

Caution: It is important to work carefully — if the blade slips out of the line, the body can be damaged. Should this happen, the mistake must be filled and sanded smooth to prevent it from showing through the paint.

第6页 21
第6页 20

Ultrasonic Cleaning

The final step of preparation is cleaning the model. Instead of manually washing the parts with warm water and detergent, I used an ultrasonic cleaner. I filled it with water and a small amount of detergent, then placed the parts inside for about 15 minutes. This effectively removed all traces of silicone release agent and sanding dust. After cleaning, the parts were fully ready for the next stage.

第6页 22

Once all these steps are complete, the body is ready for the next chapter — painting.

Porsche 911 GT3R (M-modeldesign)— Painting

Alpha Model AM02-0067 · Build by M-modeldesign

In this chapter, we focus on one of the most enjoyable stages of the project — painting the bodywork. Fire Scale Modeler provided me with the exact shade of green specifically designed for this model, ensuring authenticity and a professional finish.

Surface Preparation

Before beginning any painting, I thoroughly wipe the body with an anti-silicone cleaner. Then, using a brush and air from the airbrush, I remove any remaining dust or dirt particles on the surface. To keep the workspace as clean as possible, I mist the area with water, which helps eliminate dust floating in the air.

第7页 23

White Primer

With everything prepared, it's time to apply the white primer coat. This creates a uniform surface and ensures optimal paint adhesion.

第7页 24

Main Green Color

Once the primer has dried, the main color is applied. Using the Gaahleri airbrush, I sprayed the green paint, which proved to be smooth, easy to work with, and offered excellent coverage, precise control, and clean transitions.

第7页 25
第7页 26

Masking for Black Sections

After the main color was applied, some masking was required to spray certain sections in black. This step went smoothly, and the Fire Scale Modeler paints produced sharp, crisp lines and a clear separation between the different colors.

第7页 27

1K Clear Coat

Finally, the entire body was protected with a layer of 1K clear coat, also from Fire Scale Modeler. The clear coat not only protects the paint but also prepares the surface for the next stages of the build.

Porsche 911 GT3R (M-modeldesign)— Carbon Fiber Decals

Alpha Model AM02-0067 · Build by M-modeldesign

In this chapter, we focus on one of the most demanding yet visually stunning stages of the build — applying the carbon fiber details. These elements play a crucial role in achieving an authentic GT racing appearance, which makes precision and patience absolutely essential.

Decal Quality

For this project, I used the carbon-fiber decal set included in the Alpha Model kit. As expected, the decals are of excellent quality, featuring sharp patterns and great flexibility.

第9页 36

Surface Preparation & Application

Before applying the decals, the surfaces on the body had to be lightly sanded to remove any imperfections and create a slightly textured finish, ensuring better adhesion. Using Scalemotorsport Magic Decal Solution, I carefully positioned each carbon decal in its place. The solution softens the decal just enough for it to conform perfectly even to the most challenging curves.

第9页 37

Working the Decals into Place

With a brush, I gently pushed out the excess liquid from beneath the decal, creating a vacuum effect that allows it to settle smoothly onto the surface. For grooves and panel lines, I used the Ammo Decal Brush No. 3. For complex curves, a hairdryer can be used as well. The heat helps soften the decals so they bend naturally — though caution is needed, as too much heat can cause them to melt.

Tip: For complex curves, use a hairdryer on low heat to soften the decal. Be careful — too much heat can melt the decal.

第9页 38

Sealing with Semi-Gloss Clear

Once all decals were positioned, I allowed them to dry completely before sealing the entire surface with a semi-gloss clear coat. This final layer not only protects the decals but also gives the carbon-fiber finish a realistic, high-quality appearance.

Porsche 911 GT3R (M-modeldesign)— Sponsor Decals & Clear Coat

Alpha Model AM02-0067 · Build by M-modeldesign

In this chapter, we focus on one of the most distinctive steps in building a race car model — applying the livery and sponsor decals. These visual elements define the identity of every GT3 racer, which makes precision during application absolutely essential.

Surface Preparation

I began by thoroughly cleaning the body to remove dust and fingerprints. A perfectly clean surface is crucial, as it ensures that the decals adhere smoothly without bubbles or imperfections.

Applying the Livery

The decals included in the Alpha Model kit are exceptionally well printed and accurately matched to the contours of the car. I applied each graphic element gradually, using Scalemotorsport Decal Magic, a solution that softens the decals and helps them conform to even the most challenging curves of the bodywork.

第10页 42

Larger decals required a bit more patience, as I had to carefully work them into place to avoid wrinkles or misalignment. Smaller logos and numbers were positioned according to the reference scheme, faithfully replicating the appearance of the real Porsche GT3 R.

第10页 52

2K Gloss Clear Coat

Once all decals were in place, I let the model rest so the graphics could fully adhere to the surface. I then sealed everything with a 2K gloss clear coat from Fire Scale Modeler, which provides durable protection and a deep professional shine.

Note: The 2K clear coat offers superior durability and depth compared to 1K clear, making it ideal for sealing complex decal schemes.

第10页 44
第10页 43

The final result is a crisp, precisely applied racing livery that gives the model an authentic competition-ready appearance and captures the true spirit of a GT3 race car.

Porsche 911 GT3R (M-modeldesign)— Polishing

Alpha Model AM02-0067 · Build by M-modeldesign

Polishing is one of the final and most important stages in model building, as it gives the body its professional, finished appearance. Once the clear coat has fully cured, the process can begin by removing minor imperfections and restoring a deep, flawless shine.

Hand Sanding with 3M Trizact

I started by carefully sanding the surface by hand using 3M Trizact pads in grits #3000, #6000, and #8000. This step removes micro-imperfections and prepares the surface for machine polishing. Hand sanding is essential for maintaining full control over delicate areas of the bodywork.

Caution: Special attention must be paid to sharp edges, where excessive sanding can easily remove the clear coat or even the color. For this reason, avoid sanding directly on these edges.

第10页 51

Three-Stage Machine Polishing

This was followed by a three-stage machine polishing process.

Stage 1 — Cutting: I used a hard polishing pad with a coarse Fire Scale Modeler compound to level the surface and remove sanding marks.

第10页 49

Stage 2 — Polishing: The second stage involved a medium-strength pad with a fine polishing compound to restore gloss.

第10页 48

Stage 3 — Finishing: The final stage used a soft pad with an ultra-fine finishing compound, giving the body a perfectly smooth, glass-like appearance. Here as well, avoid applying too much pressure to prevent removing any paint.

第10页 47

Wax Protection

For additional protection and a deeper shine, I finished the surface with a thin layer of wax. This helps repel dust and dirt while also protecting the paintwork during further handling and assembly.

Porsche 911 GT3R (M-modeldesign)— Interior

Alpha Model AM02-0067 · Build by M-modeldesign

In this chapter, we take a closer look at the assembly of the interior.

Dashboard

The first focus is on the dashboard. The color scheme is simple and clean — I used Fire Scale Modeler black paint. Next, I applied the included decals, added a few carbon details, and installed the central display, giving the cockpit an authentic appearance.

第11页 54

Seats with Microballoon Texture

The seats were the next step. To achieve realistic texture, I sprinkled AK Interactive Snow Microballoons onto the fresh primer, then applied black paint over them. The result is highly convincing, providing the seats with a realistic surface and depth.

Technique: Sprinkling AK Interactive Snow Microballoons onto fresh primer before painting creates a realistic textured surface on the seats — a simple but highly effective trick.

第11页 58

Handmade Seatbelts

The seatbelts were made entirely by hand. I used Durapore medical tape, which has the ideal texture for scale modeling. The tape was cut to 2 mm, folded so the adhesive sides stuck together, then painted black and fitted with buckles, completing the look of authentic racing harnesses.

第11页 60

Door Panels & Wiring

The door panels include a few carbon decals, adding to the overall realism of the cabin. Finally, I installed some wiring inside the cockpit, further enhancing the sense of authenticity and creating a true race-car interior feel.

In this chapter, we take a closer look at the assembly of the braking system, calipers, and wheels.

Brake Calipers

The brake calipers were painted with Fire Scale Modeler Titanium Silver, kindly provided by the manufacturer. The same brand also supplied black paint for the wheels, creating perfect visual harmony with the real car.

第12页 65
第11页 59

Brake Discs

The brake discs are made from photo-etched parts mounted onto resin components. They were painted with Ceramic Grey, giving them a realistic, race-inspired appearance. All painting was done using the Gaahleri GHAD-39 airbrush, allowing for smooth and precise coverage.

第12页 64

Wheels

The wheels were painted black using Fire Scale Modeler paint, matching the real car's finish.

第12页 66

Assembly Details

During assembly, it is important to remove any paint residue from the wheel axles to ensure proper fitment in the wheel mounts attached to the body. Each brake caliper received its corresponding decal, and the central wheel nut was carefully positioned, further enhancing the authenticity of the model.

Tip: Make sure to clean paint residue from the wheel axles before assembly — this ensures a proper fit in the wheel mounts.

Porsche 911 GT3R (M-modeldesign)— Final Assembly

Alpha Model AM02-0067 · Build by M-modeldesign

In this chapter, we move on to the final — and often the most satisfying — stage of the project: the complete assembly of the model. All individual components, carefully prepared, painted, and detailed in the previous steps, now come together into a finished whole.

Interior & Roll Cage

The assembly began with installing the racing cockpit into the body. The interior required a slightly different approach than usual. The roll cage had to be fitted first, followed by the interior itself, which needed to be inserted in two separate sections to ensure proper alignment.

第13页 76

Front & Rear Details

Next, I mounted the front bumper and the headlights. Airflow guides were added to the sides, further emphasizing the aggressive aerodynamic design. The rear of the car received the exhaust system and the taillights — elements that give the model a strong sense of character and true racing presence.

第13页 72
第13页 78

Windows & Exterior Details

After that, it was time to install the windows and the remaining exterior details: wheels, wipers, the rear spoiler, door handles, and mirrors. To complete the authentic GT3 look, antennas, cameras, and emergency tow hooks were added to the roof and bodywork, just like on the real race car.

Note: The interior must be installed in two sections after the roll cage — fitting it as a single piece will not work due to the roll cage structure.

第13页 74

This final assembly stage is what truly brings the car to life, giving it its full GT3 identity and revealing the model in its final, polished form. The build is now fully assembled, visually balanced, and ready for presentation — a true highlight of the entire project.
