👋Hello everyone! Today I will be sharing this week’s most popular technical topic《Correct Use and Precautions for PE Etched Sheets》
1. Surface Preparation Before Painting PE Parts
Before painting photo-etched (PE) parts, it is recommended to lightly sand the surface first to improve adhesion.
Suggested steps:
- Lightly sand the PE part to remove oxidation and oil.
- Use a metal primer mixed with thinner at a 1:3
- Add the mixed metal primer into your regular primer.
- This will make the paint finish more durable and less likely to peel off.

2. Creating Wear Effects on Brake Discs
If you want to create a used or worn effect on a painted brake disc, you can fix it onto a drill backing pad and polish it.
Tips:
- Work at low speed with light pressure.
- Remove material gradually.
- This method is suitable for showing edge wear and realistic usage marks.

3. Bonding PE Parts to Plastic or Resin Bodies
To attach PE parts onto plastic or resin bodies, you can use MicroScale Micro Metal Foil Adhesive MI-8.
How to use:
- Use a toothpick to pick up a small amount of glue.
- Apply it to the designated area.
- Join the parts together and press into position.
- If there is excess glue, wipe it off with a cotton swab.
- Let it dry completely.

4. Bending PE Parts
If you need to bend PE parts, use a dedicated PE bending tool or suitable pliers.
Tips:
- Mark the bending line first.
- Apply pressure slowly and evenly.
- Use specialized tools for small or delicate parts.

5. Joining PE to PE
There are two main ways to join PE parts together:
- Glue bonding
- Soldering with a soldering iron
For most builders, glue is the easier and more convenient option.
Recommended adhesive:
- DG-515
Suggestion:
- Use glue for simplicity and convenience.
- Use soldering if you need a stronger metal-to-metal bond.

6. Important Notes
- PE parts are thin, so avoid forcing them during bending.
- Always prepare the surface before painting.
- Confirm the position before bonding to avoid glue stains on visible surfaces.
- Sanding, bending, and soldering should be done on a stable workbench.
- Use tweezers, toothpicks, or other small tools for tiny parts.
